Lake of the Hanging Glacier

Dist:
19.5km    Elev: 1300m    Time: 8h    Difficulty: 4/5

Another fall adventure with my spirited little bro! Nathan reached out in hopes of connecting, and we settled on an ambitious single night excursion near the middle(ish) point between Calgary and Nelson. We enjoyed dinner and an evening in his RV Friday night, followed by a big out-and-back tour of Lake of the Hanging Glacier Saturday before parting ways. Nathan and I don't see each other very often, and this short and sweet adventure provided some deeply refreshing quality time while indulging our mutual love of the great outdoors. The perfect autumn weather and stunning scenery was the cherry on top of an all around excellent weekend!

The CRV handled the muddy forestry road like a champ.

I think Nathan is excited.

One of two bridged creek crossings.

Second and much larger crossing.

Some prefer to take the road less travelled.

We stopped to explore this lovely waterfall.

Nathan downstream from the waterfall above.

Out of the trees and nearing the lake.

Looking back from the picture above.

Rock-hopping as we approach the shoreline.

Soaking it in.

Expanding views as we ascend the western ridge.

Not sure what to say about this photo...

...but he somehow convinced me to join in.

Jumbo Glacier is aptly named.

Customary "trundling" on the way down.

Final pose before beginning our return journey.

  2. What a great adventure! Seriously nice scenery.
Warms my heart to see my sons spending quality time together... crazy shit on the bridge notwithstanding.
