Grassi Lakes

Dist:
4.3km    Elev: 210m    Time: 1.5h    Difficulty: 1/5

In celebration of me passing my EPPP licensing exam on Monday, Melinda and I decided to get up early and spend a couple hours together in the great outdoors before our Mother's Day plans later in the day. We arrived at the usually-packed parking lot just before 9a.m. and were pleasantly surprised by how few vehicles were there. Grassi Lakes is usually a little too crowded for our preferences but due to our early start we got to enjoy this beautiful little loop in peaceful solitude. With my exam out of the way and rapidly improving weather, I am looking forward to many more adventures in the coming months!

A bit of a misnomer for a relatively easy trail, but completing the loop in this direction offers the best views and gets the most "difficult" sections out of the way early

Mindy poses at the bottom of a steep rock staircase, which is really the extent of the "difficult" section

View towards Canmore. Mt. Lady Macdonald and Grotto Mt. beyond.

Stream just above the previous falls

Upper Grassi Lake from above. This place is a beautiful and accessible local gem without the usual crowds

This little guy watched us return to the car via the "easy" section of the loop.

  1. Beautiful as always--and I'm amazed at how much snow is gone from the lower elevations. Congrats on passing your EPPP licensing exam; I know you studied hard for it and no doubt deserved and earned it. Out of curiosity, do you know what the man-made structure is that is visible above Lower Grassi Lake (in photos 1/7 and 9)?

  2. I recall that area from a hike with Cubs. Still as beautiful.
