Troll Falls

Dist: 3.3km    Elev: 50m    Time: 1.5h    Difficulty: 1/5

As a Valentine's/graduation celebration, Melinda and I decided to put our Air Miles and employee health benefits to good use by spending a weekend in the mountains! We completed this short-yet-sweet walk on Saturday on the way to our hotel, the Delta Lodge in Kananaskis Village. I wanted to share this little gem with Mindy, as I have many fond memories of childhood adventures there with my dad and brothers. Despite remembering the hike as much longer and significantly more physically demanding, I enjoyed numerous moments of pleasant childhood nostalgia and it was fun to share stories with Melinda. I had also never seen the falls frozen, which turned out to be quite unique and picturesque. Despite the heavy snow and viewless walk in, I couldn't resist taking at least a few pictures of the falls.

Trail Description:
Park in the Stoney Trail Day Use parking lot, just beyond the turnoff for Kananaskis Village off Highway 40. The trail is primarily through forest, with occasion views of surrounding peaks (on clear days, unlike our severely overcast conditions). The path quickly arrives at the beautiful falls- a great reward considering the little effort required to get there. We opted to return via a slightly longer loop on the Hay Meadows trail, which would be a beautiful walk on a clear day as we could just barely make out distance peaks through the heavy clouds/fog. Troll Falls is a great little trip for people of all ages and abilities!

The route is obvious the entire way.

A look behind the falls.

Frozen spring emerging from the rock face.

It was cool to see so many families enjoying and making memories at this neat little spot.
