For our 4th "Mountain Adventure" of 2017, Mindy and I decided to take on Baldy Pass after reading about the diverse trail, nice pass views, and shoulder-season availability. Despite a little wind, we enjoyed an afternoon of warm sunshine and beautiful blue spring skies.
Trail Description:
Park in the Baldy Pass trailhead lot on Hwy 40, 14 km south of the Trans-Canada Highway. Use the pedestrian crosswalk to cross the highway, and find the clearly-marked trailhead. The hike begins as a gentle walk through forest, eventually turning left (northeast) to climb a rocky path left behind by flooding and the slowly-eroding mountain above. Once atop the pass, take another left (north) and follow the rocky ridge for another 5-10 minutes for increasingly rewarding vistas of the Kananaskis Valley and Nakiska ski hill.
